BMS Current Sensing: Hall Effect vs. Shunt-Based Approaches

Current sensing enables State of Charge estimation, overcurrent protection, and cell balancing.

Hall Effect Current Sensors

**Advantages:** Galvanic isolation up to 4.8kV+, zero insertion loss, bidirectional measurement, excellent high-current capability, fast response time (< 3µs).

**Limitations:** Higher cost, sensitivity to external magnetic fields, offset drift over temperature.

Shunt-Based Current Sensing

**Advantages:** Lower cost, excellent accuracy at low currents, DC stable with no offset drift.

**Limitations:** I²R heating, no galvanic isolation, accuracy degrades at high currents.

Our Hall effect current sensor portfolio covers ranges from ±50A to ±2000A with accuracy reaching ±0.7%.
